I guess this is the first of the ramblings that will be part of my board. Everything else has just been cool shht I've come across on the internet. Anywho... I recently stumbled across an article about Gap Inc's new logo. (If you're not from the States or don't know what Gap is, it's a clothing company.) I've never heard about Gap changing their logo much less seen the logo itself. And that's probably because of the huge consumer outcry to change it back. If you haven't read up on it yet, follow this link then come back: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39622202/from/toolbarAwful. First, did I purposely choose a low res pixelated picture of the logo? Yes, that's all it really deserves. It's really not all that bad, but there's a reason why it didn't work and I'll get to that in a second. I want to point out that this wasn't necessarily a fail for the artist more than it was for the Gap marketing team. If you look at any successful rebranding, you'll notice that the overall design stays intact. Target: [Old] [New]AT&T: [Old] [New]Apple: [Old] [New]The problem with Gap's rebranding was that any identity they gained with the old logo was lost with the new. That is to say, if I saw someone carrying a Gap bag with the new logo I wouldn't immediately recognize it as the same company. Everything was lost with the new design. It's a totally different typeface, and hell the blues don't even match. ^I did this in a couple of minutes and while it's still crap, I think something like this would have been more effective. Yes it's a different font, but the identity is still there. It's still white on a blue background. This was huge marketing fail that I think could have been avoided if Gap didn't have their heads up their asses. Again, this is more directed at the company itself since the artist is limited to creating what the client wants. To sum it all up..pffft dumb Gap.. That's enough hating on Gap. I think I've said Gap so much it's starting to not sound like a word. Anyways, I think I've made my point.

Actually it is the same font. Arial Bold (Or maybe Helvetica Bold) with a decrease in font spacing. And they modified the G. Im a total font-nerd. Yeah there was quite an up-rage about the new logo. I find it hilarious. They went from having a respectable brand logo, to a Wal-Mart class brand logo. Lawl this is what I came up with:

I was referring to the helvetica in my logo vs spire (which is the font from the original gap logo). And yes the G from their redesign is indicative of a helvetica typeface. At any rate, they could have used any font and I probably still would have hated it. xP

Pretty much.
I'm waiting for a big company like that do something with Comic Sans. So I can watch the online community tear them a new one xP.
