Here is my list and a brief description of what 5 RPG games I feel had the largest impact, best story, and best characters. It's just my opinion, so don't get mad if you disagree.
5. Final Fantasy VIII/Final Fantasy IX -FF8 and FF9 tie for my 4th spot. I really couldn't mention one without the other. I think they both took what FF7 had set up on the PS1 and they both took it in different directions. FF8 used the most pixels at the time and had stunning graphics for the time period. FF9 softened the graphics and had a more cartoon-esque feel. The cut scenes in both were amazing! Both had equally gripping stories and extremely fun and unique characters.
4. Fable -Fable really brought the 'Action RPG' to a mainstream level. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't the only important game for that; Diablo, and the Tales Series are also major contributors. The story was an amazing labyrinth of choices and you can play it through multiple times because of this. Fable brought the RPG to the 360, and with III being released, fable isn't going anywhere.
3. Fire Emblem: Dawn of Radiance -First fire emblem on the Wii and one of the best in my opinion. Originally the title of Tactical RPG left a bad taste in my mouth after playing FFTactics when I was younger. Fire Emblem takes FFTactics and adds so many more dimensions. It gives a more specific storyline and had characters that were personal. FE took it's charcters, even the interchangeable ones, and gave them names and back-story; it was Shinon who was a marksman, and not just a nameless marksman like in a lot of Tactical RPGs. So I accredit FE:RD for getting me back into TRPGs.
2. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of The New World - It garnered mixed reviews upon it's release, but I thought it deserved a 10 out 10. I loved the mixed battle style of button mashing and positioning along with timing. The characters are so heartfelt that you get immersed into the story a lot easier than some RPGs. IT is a prequel and the original is also regarded as one of the best RPGs, but I prefer this one. People say the main character is annoying, and I thought of him as endearing. It was the second game I bought for my Wii, the first being MarioCart, and I'm so happy about that initial investment. It is also one of the few RPGs that is on the Wii console at the moment.
1. Final Fantasy VII -If you didn't see this one coming, something might be wrong with you. Everyone knows that a majority of FF fan-boys got hooked off of FF7. That may be starting to change now as my generation moves out and a new one moves in. (I'm only 21, but I was 8 when the game came out, and started playing it when I was 10.) FF7 put PlayStation on the RPG map, Nintendo originally holding the title. It has sold over 10 million copies since it's release. As far as a Final Fantasy game goes, it is missing some of the general basics, like class systems. However, when I first played it, I didn't mind because I didn't know any better. FF7 in my eyes is what got people hooked on Final Fantasy. Now Let's give credit where credit is due, FF1-6 had a major part in the Franchise, but FF7 became the flagship, and today is still the flagship. I loved the story, no matter how confusing, and I loved the side quests- the story has to be good, otherwise we wouldn't have all the spin-offs today. I also loved all of the characters, especially: Emo-Youth Cloud, Street-Fighter Tifa, Gentle Aries, and Tough-as-Nails Barret. Acrobat-Thief Yuffie and Vampire-esque Vincent even struck people's fancy.
So there you have it, my top 5, well 6, 3D RPGs.
Not going to lie, the only reason I did this is so I could put off my Theology Paper by another hour. Hahaha.
Top 5 Action Adventure to come later in the week!

Thank you, thank you very much. I'm sure the tribute seemed quite right, but if you knew of all the years, of hopes and dreams and tears, you would know this didn't happen overnight!
