NO. PLEASE NO.
I don't want Hollywood to screw up Death Note. :/
Ah, what the hell. I knew about this for a year.
Who knows, they might get lucky and not ruin it.
...But I doubt it. [/sup]

Let's try to be optimistic. There is only an 85% chance they will severely screw it up beyond recognition!

I've never watched the live action ones, although I want to. :/
I have, however, read the book for L: Change the World. It was pretty good. [/sup]

I heard the original Japanese versions kind of sucked. I do remember them being theatrically released here in America, but I think they only ran for like a week.

I ended up googling it, and the films were disasters in the US, but they were huge in Japan, and to a much lesser extent china. In America the first movie had a two day run. Probably not what they had hoped for.

Hmm, probably not.
Well, most of the info I got about the movies were from fangirls/boys. xD
Who knows, they might be good. I'll rent them or something if I see 'em. [/sup]

Bumping cause of some (somewhat) new info:
On January 13th, 2011, it was announced that Shane Black is going to direct the American remake of Death Note, and Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry are going to write the script.
Link obtained from Wikipedia. [/sup]

Is this good or bad?
I think Death Note should stay in its epic, gory, beautifully drawn, Anime style. If they can recapture the essence of Death Note in a WB Film, I would definitely be intrigued.
Although a prime example of failure to do so would be The Last Airbender. The Anime was good apparently, but the movie suuuuuucked. Then again it was... crap I forgot his name.
All I remember is that his movies are lame almost all of the time.

Mm, I'm not sure if it's all that good, since I agree that it should stay in anime form. I'm concerned of how it will look on the "big screen". Will the actors fit the characters? Will their names change? Probably since it's American, but if they do, let's hope it's not something lame.
But who knows, it might end up becoming really good, and it might even draw more fans into Death Note 'dom. And yet I doubt that. Because of movies like that Dragon Ball Z remake. I haven't seen but I heard it's horrible.
And yeah. I heard the movie version of Avatar: The Last Airbender was bad as well. Reaaaally bad. Oh, and M. Night Shyamalan directed it. I don't recall seeing any of his movies. Except for Signs. I think I liked that one. But I don't remember. :/ [/sup]
