So, some random "billionaire" Clive Palmer is apparently creating a replica of the Titanic, going so far as to name his ship the Titanic II. This is the article about it.I think he's asking for trouble--on his way toward possibly recreating history more like, if not to make it worse. The article doesn't say anything about why this is even a project, which really bugs me. I may not have ever seen the movie for the Titanic--either one of them--but I know the story well enough to say it's crazy. What do you guys think?

I think the problem the first time around was that they didn't have enough life rafts for everyone on board. Which is something they probably regulate now. I mean, that doesn't help with icebergs or anything but at least they'd have a chance for survival. I don't agree with them naming it Titanic II though, seems like they're trying to gain publicity from a tragic event. :/

Not enough life boats and I'm pretty sure there was something up with the one steering the ship...I don't remember the full details I guess. The name bugs me too, though. Like come on. The Titanic, Olympic, and...I guess Gigantic? Apparently it was going to be the Britannic, I'm not even sure which name that one had now, but still. They could've at least stayed away from those ship names, ESPECIALLY the Titanic.

I'm sure the Titanic buffs are psyched about it though. Name aside, I think it would be kind of neat to walk around and stay in a replica Titanic (assuming the interior matches the original). Did you ever hear about that 1 mile long ship they were talking about making a while back? I was fascinated by it when I heard about it. Apparently it still hasn't been made, and it probably never will. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Ship

It'd be neat to see it as, say, a museum type of thing...to walk inside the replica of a STATIONARY Titanic. But the real thing? I dunno, I'm not a superstitious type of person but to me that's like asking for trouble. It's probably more discomforting to me after playing the DS game 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors [999] with its theme, and considering that game's time setting and how closely it aligns with the Titanic II's supposed release, but it's still asking for a repeat of history.
A mile long ship, though? Jeez, I don't know how they'd manage to pull that one off. Titanic II I can understand but a mile-long ship? How long are ships normally, anyway? Ships are crazy.

It'll never get made. It would be a hugely expensive endeavor just building it, but then there's the yearly upkeep costs and constant maintenance. Maybe Dubai will make it, those guys are into things that are way over the top
